Setting Up Zoom for a Live Virtual Class with Us
Once you have an account you can download the Zoom Meeting app here: https://zoom.us/download. If you are on a computer click the “Zoom Client for Meetings” link.
If you are on your mobile device, you can go to your device’s app store and search for the app “ZOOM Cloud Meetings”.
Once you have the app downloaded you will be able to connect to all the class links that we provide you. You will be able to simply click our class links and be added to the class automatically or you will need the Meeting ID: XXX-XXX-XXX and the Password: XXXXXX that is also included in the email we send you. Remember that you must signup for class no less than 1 hour before class begins to get the email for that class.
Below are pictures of the computer app as well as the mobile app.
Click on the “Join” button to enter the meeting information.
Enter the Meeting ID and make sure to change the name to match yours. Not a username, please make it at least your first name so that we can easily check you in. Keep both of the lower boxes unchecked/turned off if you want to be seen and heard in class.
Once you select “Join” the password window will pop-up. Please enter the provided password here.
When you enter the room on a computer the Left window will open. Select “Join with Computer Audio”. If you don’t want to be asked every time, select the little check box in the bottom left corner to “Automatically join audio by computer when joining a meeting”.
When you enter the room on a mobile device The Right window will open. Select your preference “Join with Video” or “Join without Video”. If you want to see a preview of how you will look, leave the “Always show video preview dialog when joining a video meeting” turned on.
Once in the meeting, along the bottom is how you control your Audio and Video. The microphone or set of headphones on the far left is how you will hear and be heard.
The video camera icon is how you control being seen in the meeting.
If either of these icons is grayed out, unselectable, crossed out it means that you either haven’t connected audio/video or your device doesn’t support this capability.
Now that you’re in the meeting, you can select either “Speaker View” or “Gallery View”. Speaker View keeps the screen on the teacher while they are teaching, so you only see whoever is talking. Gallery View lets you see all the participants in the class. This selection is your preference.
The controls for it on a computer are in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
And on a mobile device, you just swipe through to change your view and/or see additional people. Gallery View is a little harder on a mobile device, depending on how big your screen is.
At this point, if the teacher can see and hear you you are all good to go to attend your ZOOM class.
