Hello, and welcome to the Tribe. We are excited that you have made the decision to learn Yoga. Yoga is a practice which improves the union of the mind, body, and spirit. It has been practiced for thousands of years. Yoga includes asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing), and meditation. Take a moment and see what comes to mind when you think of someone who does or practices Yoga. You may think of someone who is a strong, limber, athletic looking person who exudes calmness, focus, and compassion and is someone people like to be around or be like. These attributes are some of the benefits of Yoga. Doing Yoga REGULARLY has significant Physiological, Psychological, and Biochemical benefits such as:
Increased Flexibility and Range of Motion
Reduced blood pressure
Improved Focus and Concentration
Improved Cardiovascular Conditioning
Increased Mental, Physical, and Emotional Balance
Speak with any Yoga practitioner and they will probably give you an even longer list of benefits! A quick Internet search could have you reading for days! But let’s keep this manageable.
A great advantage of most Yoga practices is the availability for everybody to participate. People of all ages, genders, and backgrounds can rock out a great Yoga class together, wring out their muscles and organs, build strength, challenge their focus and balance, and find peace in a stilled body and quieted mind.
Yoga is for you because it is for everyone. But, be healthily skeptical and find out for yourself that it is for you through the experience of practice. So it all starts with a beginning. And it continues with a regular practice. You’ll arrive at your first class wondering why these poses? Why these constant reminders to stay present? I heard you the first time! But with patience and continued practicing, soon you begin to feel a transformation which may include things like the back pain you had is gone, the ache in your knee doesn’t quite bother you, your arms and shoulders have well defined muscle, and your mid-section is trimming quite nicely. You may also notice that you’re getting along better with people and that the guy that cut you off on your way to work didn’t get under your skin. You’re not reacting anymore, but acting with purpose. And you continue improving your bodily, mental, and emotional states by continuing your practice. Zig Ziglar once said “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing that’s why we recommend it daily.” This same statement goes with any good habit and especially for a good Yoga practice. So if you are ready to create a transformation in your life, commit yourself to a one month trial membership to practice with the Tribal Yoga Community.
